About this site

Inner Auckland Press covers the Albert-Eden Local Board area, the suburbs of Point Chevalier, Mt Albert, Sandringham, Morningside, Kingsland, Mt Eden, and the communities in between. This is one of Auckland's most populous and diverse urban patches, and it has a local government that makes real decisions about the streets, parks, libraries, and public spaces that shape daily life here.

Those decisions deserve scrutiny. Too often, local government operates in the gap between what residents notice and what gets reported. Meeting agendas go unread. Spending decisions pass without comment. Accountability depends on someone paying attention.

Inner Auckland Press exists to pay attention.

We cover the Albert-Eden Local Board, its relationship with Auckland Council, and the civic processes that determine how this part of the city is governed and resourced. Our journalism is built around public records, official meetings, and on-the-ground reporting, not press releases. We ask questions on behalf of residents who don't have time to sit through committee sessions or parse through hundreds of pages of council documents.

This is not a community noticeboard, and it's not general Auckland news. It's a focused, independent publication dedicated to one area and the people who live in it. We believe that kind of sustained, specific attention, the kind that builds genuine institutional knowledge over time, is what local accountability journalism actually requires.

Inner Auckland Press was founded by Richard Sutherland, a journalist of more than three decades and a Point Chevalier resident with a longstanding interest in how local government works and who it works for.
